The ski trip has changed substantially from the no frills experience common in the 70s and 1980s. The resorts across Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah have been improving their facilities to craft the perfect ski vacation experience.
The last ten years have brought increasing growth to the size of resort facilities, on mountain services, shopping, and dining. While there are many top quality ski resorts; Vail Resort in Vail, Colorado and Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah consistently earn the #1 and #2 positions as reviewed by Ski Magazine readers. Deer Valley Resort has earned the number one honors in 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009.
Deer Valley focuses on the quality of its finely groomed runs, on mountain services, and on mountain restaurants to retain its #1 ranking. The resort prides itself on its award winning lunch menu as well as its fine dining restaurants open every evening during the winter season. The restaurants are located in Deer Valley Resorts elegant ski lodges.
Options at Deer Valleys three upscale dining restaurants include continental and European fare at Mariposa, fresh seafood at the Seafood Buffet, and Swiss selections at Fireside Dining. Mariposa consistently receives top ratings with the Fireside Dining and Seafood Buffet not far behind.
Park City UT has also improved its service level by increasing the amount of high end accommodations and by adding many great restaurants. The traditional ski vacation lodging options have been replaced because of the demands of the modern traveler.
Due to this recent transition towards a more discerning visitor, Park City and Deer Valley restaurants have responded by providing an ever improving dining experience. Zagat, Michelin, Mobile, and AAA rate several restaurants close to Deer Valley as top choices within their widely read travel guides.
Although there are many fantastic Deer Valley restaurants, my favorite choice is the Goldener Hirsch Restaurant which is tucked away in the Austrian inspired Goldener Hirsch Inn. The Stein Eriksen Lodge has arguably one of the finest restaurants in the country with its Glitretind Restaurant. The Glitretind is also famous for its daily Skiers Lunch Buffet during the ski season.
Living up to its number 1 ski resort reputation, Deer Valley Resort certainly will not disappoint. No matter what your personal preference you will definitely be able to find something to your liking both on and off the mountain. Deer Valley Resort is definitely worth a closer examination. Two thumbs up!
