After being released from the Chicago Bears, their former running back has some choice words for his former team.
Cedric Benson believes that the Bears made a very obvious mistake in releasing him, especially considering his strong finish to the 2008 NFL season as a Bengal. He noted his career highs in yards and carries in a limited number of games, evidence of his recent success.
During his tenure in Chicago, Benson served as backup to Thomas Jones. Jones, currently a New York Jet, had a scuffle of his own earlier this week at practice.
Benson said this about his former teammate: "Typical, that's the kind of guy he is. I don't pay attention to what is going on in his world."
As for his former teammates and staff, the only person that Benson had praises for was Lovie Smith, stating that he believes only Smith wanted him on board as part of the team.
I love how Cedric is so cocky, his stats were about the same last year as his in the past with the Bears. He also got a lot of his carries in garbage games, which really doesn't impress me. He averaged 3.5 yards per carry, only scored 2 TDs, and had his two big games in weeks 16 and 17 against the Browns and Chiefs. Neither of those games mattered, and he's going on and on like he's some kind of hero!
It's not as if the Bears would probably want him anyway. Benson is the kind of running back who insists on being the feature back and doesn't take well to the idea of splitting carries.
As for the Bears, one would have to assume that they have no regrets about their decision. Kevin Jones is more than serviceable as a backup to Matt Forte, and comes without the drama.
