All of the bad Sox memories came back into the minds of the team's fans as the Yankees brutally devoured the Red Sox in a four game series this past weekend. While the Sox came in as hopefuls, just two games back in the AL East, they left with their heads down, six and a half games behind the Yanks. Talk about a letdown! The team endured 31 straight innings of shutout baseball before finally scoring a run Sunday night.
Not that the run mattered anyway. With consecutive home runs by Yankees Johnny Damon and Mark Texeira, the Yanks went on to win the series' final game 5-2, and just like that, the 2.5 game deficit in the AL East suddenly transformed to a daunting 6.5 game gap.
The Sox have now lost 6 games in a row, and are limping back into Fenway to face the Tigers. Let's pray for some good ole home cooking!
Boston typically goes through lulls like this each season, but it usually relates to an overall team slump. This year, fans can point their fingers at injury issues to the team's starting pitching staff.
The team has enough tools in place to turn things around, but a six-game losing streak really has an impact this late in the season.
There is no doubt now that the Evil Empire is alive and well. It looks as if the Sox and Yanks will most definitely cross light sabers again in the AL East.
However, the Sox must forget about the whole Ortiz steroid circus, awaken their bats, and hope someone can step up in the pitching rotation. Beckett and Lester can't do it all by themselves!
Remember Sox fans. Darth Vader and the Emperor bought it in the end! As will the Yankees! Viva los Sox!
