Comparing The Features of Your Digital Camera

By Chris Drake

An important step when buying a new digital camera is comparing the features. With so many different features to consider, how do you make the breakdown and see what you want? You dont want to get stuck reading every single review for every single digital camera thats come out since the beginning of time.

The first thing you need to do is try to figure out what features excite you. Which features do you feel are important to have? Starting from there you can make the breakdown and begin your search.

When comparing digital camera features, you will find a lot of similarities. Your goal is to break through the ones that look the same and find the ones that are different so you will need to start with the features you are interested in most. Which is more important to you, high megapixels or video recording?

Compatibility with other accessories, like zoom lenses, may be another issue you consider. Then there are batteries to consider. Are you comfortable with recharging the specially designed battery or would you prefer using a pair of standard AAs?

Once youve broken the field down, comparing the digital camera features you like most can now be sorted in a different fashion: cost. You found a couple of cameras with a high megapixel rate that handles the zoom lenses you already own and are comfortable with the kinds of batteries they use. Which is better for your budget?

Once you sort them out, its time to isolate the cameras based on what you dont want, or what doesnt interest you. Maybe you prefer a camera with a large digital view finder, or maybe you dont want one with an automatic flash installed. Its time to lower those on your list.

Comparing digital camera features isnt easy, but once you have an idea of what you want you can start the process. If you talk to a store representative for help, make sure youre in a camera store because the retail outlet representatives dont always know the specific answers you may need, especially if you take photography seriously.

The last thing you want to do is walk out with a camera that someone said is perfect for you and that is the furthest from it. But most importantly, remember that the camera you finally choose to be yours has to have all the features that make you most comfortable.
