Sydney Roosters Aim To Sign Tuqiri

Rugby league memorabilia collectors have a lot to be excited about right now. The Sydney Roosters are set to sign on Lote Tuqiri, the former Wallaby player. The Roosters plan to make a sizeable offer to Tuqiri to induce him to make the move to the team for the upcoming season. While he likely won't be making quite as much as before, it's still an offer he'll be certain to carefully consider after losing his contract and being booted from the rugby league.

If Tuqiri accepts the Roosters' offer, the value of rugby league signed merchandise bearing the player's name is certain to greatly increase. The deal looks likely, though it does hinge on a few factors - new Roosters coach Brian Smith's assent and if the team drops Setaimata Sa's contract. Collectors sadly won't be seeing any West Tigers jerseys or other Tigers-related rugby league memorabilia with Tuqiri's name, since the Tigers have dropped out of negotiations following Tuqiri's announcement that he had no intention of signing with the club.

There wont be any rugby league memorabilia with Tuqiri's name on the back of a West Tigers jersey because the Tigers have dropped out of contention for the star after Tuqiri's handlers made it clear that he had no interest in the club.

Unfortunately for rugby league memorabilia collectors, it doesn't seem that there will be any West Tigers jerseys or other memorabilia with Tuqiri's name on it, as the club has decided to stop pursuing the player after his management made it clear he was unwilling to sign on with the team.

The Roosters would certainly benefit from the association because of the star's major crowd pulling power. It just leaves a matter of whether or not the team can put together a good enough offer to snare Tuqiri. Other league teams appear to be out of the running. The Bulldogs can not consider the addition since they have increased Brian Goodwin's contract and also signed both Mickey Paea and Junior Tia Kilifi. Gold Coast also said they would pass on trying to get Turqiri to the Titans.

In the meantime, Turqiri's case is still being reviewed by the leagues Supreme Court and lawyers from both sides are arguing for changes in the dispute. Turqiri himself has been playing club rugby after a three month break

Basketball Shooting Drills

There is an old saying in basketball that goes something like this. "Good shooting covers over a multitude of sins." This saying might be the most true thing in all of basketball, because in the end, the most important thing is having the ball go through that hoop. It does not matter if you are winning the rebounding and turnover battle and getting off better shots than your opponent if your shots are not going in and there shots are going in. They will still be winning. The question is, how can you be the player who shots always go in? The answer to that question is positive repetition.

The last part of your shot is the first part that you must work on. It is called the stoke. The stroke is the finishing touch on your shot and correlates to have good touch on your shot. To do this, act like you are a waiter, but in stead of holding up food in one hand, you are holding up a basketball. You should have a 90 degree angle at your elbow pit, and arm pit. You are then going to want to go straight up and release the basketball.

The next part is the motion. In this you hold your arm out parallel to the ground as if asking for money. You then bring it to your shot pocket with your elbow pointing to the ground and your forearm parallel to the ground and then go up to the waitress position and then stroke the ball. Both these can be done anytime, anywhere. While watching TV, or for the first minute before you play. This motion is your shot and you will want to perfectly smooth. This motion though is just the guidance of the ball and nothing with it should change no mater where you are on the court.

Since we have our arms ready to guide the ball to the hoop, we must train our legs to get the power we will need. To train your legs, sit with your butt at the edge of a chair. Then shoot the ball while standing up. Use the motion shot you just learned and concentrate on using the power from your legs, and not from your arms.

The next piece of the puzzle is footwork. To be a great basketball player, you must be able to shoot the ball with any combination of feet patterns. Like a left right stop, a right left stop, or a two foot hop stop. To practice this, go out there and do it.

Now that you have your shot down, how do you get better? That answer is simple. Positive repetition. You have to shoot a lot of shots in all sorts of game situations. Off the pass or off the dribble. 3 pointer, mid range, and short range. Know your teams offense, and practice those shots. Make some drills that will work on what you need work on.

You can also do drills with using cones as your defenders. You can also imagine using cones as picks to come off of. Take a partner with you to the gym and encouraging each other to get better while pushing each other in competition. You can do what every you with your partner, but you will get off more shots than you would if you were by yourself. Never forget though, to have positive repetition.

Free Agent Lamar Odom Returns To The Lakers

After a month long free agency soap opera, both Lamar Odom and the Los Angeles Lakers got what they really wanted all along. The Lakers retained the services of their valuable sixth man, and Odom will return to the team after an intense recruiting pitch from the Miami Heat. On Friday, Odom officially signed his new contract with the NBA Champions thus insuring that the nucleus of the roster will remain intact.

Terms of the deal were similar to the contract offer that was pulled in early July, starting the entire drama. After negotiations broke down due to some miscommunication between Odoms agent and Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss it looked for awhile like Odom was headed elsewhere. While Odom worked to mend fences"including several personal phone calls to Dr. Buss"his agent was receiving interest from Miami, Portland and Dallas.

Ultimately, however, Odom couldnt come up with a compelling reason to leave his situation in Los Angeles. At the official signing ceremony, he hinted that a dynasty could be in the making:

"I guess basketball-wise, I feel complete. I want to feel it again. It's kind of an overwhelming feeling. I get goose bumps when I think about it, and as long as I continue to play professional basketball, I want to always feel that. The way I feel during the summer, I always want to feel that. If we can win six, seven, eight, nine, 10 championships in a row, I want to experience that."

The only significant loss to last years NBA title winning team was Trevor Ariza, but the teams signing of Ron Artest is likely an upgrade. Artest brings not only his infamous swagger and intensity, but an element of toughness and versatility that Ariza lacked. Such was Odoms commitment to the Lakers is that even during his free agency, he helped recruit Artest to sign with the team:

"I spoke to Ron two days before he signed, and I told him how important I think it is for him to come here. Because I know how hard he works, he needs to experience basketball at its best, at the highest level, and he needs to become a Laker. Two days after that, he signed."

Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak sounded relieved that everything worked out in the end:

"Three or four months ago, I didn't think it could be possible that we could basically bring this team back in whole. Lamar had a wonderful season that ended on the best possible note you could have, and Lamar had a lot of options. ... Here it is, July 31, and we have brought back everybody that we wanted to bring back."

Odom has spent most of his career in L.A., either with the Lakers or the Clippers, and he noted that the city is home to him and his family:

"I didn't want my kids to have to change schools -- just the little things. I'm comfortable here. I've been here since I was 19 years old. I'm proud to be playing for what I think is the most popular brand in sports.

How to Write Poetry

The 'free verse' style of poetry is the most popular among current writers. Walt Whitman is credited with originating the form in the late 19th century. Poetry was restricted to certain forms and rhyming schemes before that time.

Formal poetry generally follows a set pattern, in rhyme and meter. We commonly place a letter at the end of the last word in each line. Analyzing these patterns is called scansion.

Using letter to signify the rhymes is a great way to determine the pattern. If line one and two rhyme, an A would be placed beside them. If line three and four rhyme with each other but not one and two, we would place B's beside them. The pattern would be AABB. If line 5 rhymes with either, an A or B would be used. If it does not phyme, we would use a C.

Next, we are concerned with meter. Each line contains a set number of beats, usually two or three syllables. The most common beat is 'Iambic pentameter'. The individual beats consist of a short and a strong pulse. This beat is present in words such as 'arrest, domain, forsooth'. The accent is on the second syllable.

Enough of the rules already, let's get to the fun stuff. When you tell stories or write letters what do you start with? Something you overheard, witnessed, or read about? The best way to start a poem is to begin with what you're most comfortable with.

Think of what type of poem you had in mind. Will it be a story, a comment, a character study? It is best to skim through some examples to get you started off. It is also important to take breaks like going for a walk or to bed. When you come back, jot things down. It does not have to be orderly.

It may take many weeks or months to get your poem finished. If your having trouble, take a break. When you come back, carry on from the last line in your poem. You will be delighted at what comes out.
